Hello MLWS Families…

At last, it truly feels like Spring has arrived! Please read onto learn more about what is blossoming within our schoolcommunity!

Parent Council continues to work on the projects that the College and parents identified as priorities. Our next Parent Council meeting will be Wednesday, May 10, 5:30-6:30pm. Please join us for the last meeting of the school year and share your perspective, as we begin planning for next year.

From Ms. Loshak: In First Grade, we are coming to the end of our last math block for the year. All four processes have been introduced and are practiced daily. We are counting in circles, stomping and clapping odd and even numbers, using sticks and beanbags to count in 2’s, 3’s and 4’s, and standing on cushions and desks to count in 5’s and 10’s, allthe while weaving stories to bring life to our math work.

From Ms. Jee: Before Spring break, the Fourth Grade was in a Local History and Geography block, walking the streets of Old New Amsterdam, hearing the click of Peter Stuyvesant’s peg leg throughout the building, imagining what life was like in the area before our country was established. Moving forward in time, we looked at the local industries that came to define our area: the tarpaper shacks of the Huckleberry pickers, the grist stone carvers, Rosendale Cement and the D. and H. Canal. We visited the D. and H. Canal museum, and trudged through the snow down the five locks walk. We saw a working model of how the locks once filled with water to allow the barges to move through. Since classes resumed, we have moved into a Human Being and Animal block, and will take another trip to High Falls on Monday to observe and draw the animal sat the Woodstock Farm Sanctuary.
