Hello MLWS Families!
Although cold and snowy weather has returned to us briefly, Spring and its energies of rebirth and renewal are just around the corner. Parent Council looks forward to channeling this energy into support for our school. In that vein, we are pleased to share this issue of the newsletter with the community, which includes a Parent Council update, highlights activities of various classes and other school-related topics, offers Classified listings and provides information about upcoming events in the community.
PARENT COUNCIL UPDATE
Highlights of current projects in the works are as follows:
- The Welcome Committee has been established and held its first open Q&A forum geared towards supporting new families in their first year at MLWS.
- A workshop for parents on the topic of the Four Temperaments is in development for late April/early May.
- A How-To Guide to inform parents about the various events and activities that occur as they move through the grades (such as Work Shares, Music Shares, Michaelmas, Clothing Sale, etc.), and their roles and responsibilities in relation to these events and activities, is in development. If you have any information you’d like to share in this effort, please contact Amy at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- A Welcome to MLWS Packet for new families is also in development and will be ready for new families in the upcoming 2018/19 school year.
Parent Council will hold our March meeting on Wednesday, March 14, 3:15-4:15pm* . Please consider attending this meeting to share your thoughts, ideas and concerns, and to learn more about the various Parent Council initiatives in the works. Help our community thrive. Many hands make light work!

A Peek Into the Classroom
From Mr. Lundin:
As you listen to stunning orchestra performances at MLWS Music Shares, have you ever wondered where early formative musical experiences take place at MLWS? On a recent morning at MLWS, you could have heard the First Grade resounding with the music of our singing and of our new pear wood flutes. To arouse the class’s anticipation, we heard a tale of how our new flutes are gifts from a far-away pear tree that has come over the ocean (perhaps from Sweden?). Musical notes, sung by differently-sized birds on their seven favorite branches of this pear tree when it was alive, were preserved in their sequence in the wood after the tree was tragically cut down. As a result, these Choroi flutes made from this tree’s wood embody these birds’ musical legacy. The class is captivated by these flutes’ musicality and brims with enthusiasm about learning new songs to play.
The Sixth Grade Performed “Good Masters, Sweet Ladies”
The Eighth Grade Performed “Will & Whimsy”
