Hello MLWS Families…

Welcome to the start of the 2016-17 school year!  We hope things are off to a smooth start in your  household. This year, Parent Council will be  publishing a biweekly newsletter, which will include  a Parent Council update, highlight some of the  activities of the various classes in the school and  provide information about upcoming events in the  MLWS community.

Parent Council held our first meeting of the year on  September 14. We identified several priority  projects to focus on this year including: The  Enchanted Walk, a Welcome Committee for new  families, a Parent Council presence at MLWS public  events to support new enrollment, Faculty  Nourishment, Food Drives at Music Shares to  support Family of New Paltz, and this bi-weekly  newsletter to keep parents informed. Please  consider attending the October meeting or offering  your time to one of these projects.

From Mrs. Workman: The Kindergarten has been  busy preparing for Michaelmas, dying silks and  making capes to wear when we attend the play. And  some of the children who will move up to the First  Grade next year have started finger-weaving hats,  and it is very special for them and us.
From Mr. Neel: The Third Grade has heard the first  seven days of Genesis, which is a slow build to a  very long story. Now that humans are on the scene,  let the trouble begin! As part of our building block,  we are hoping to build a play structure in the lower  play yard and are seeking donations of any type of  lumber, so long as it is not pressure treated.

Friday, September 30, 12:00pm (Please arrive by  11:50am): The second grade will perform the  Michaelmas Play in the MLWS school yard,  followed by the Games of Courage at Hasbrouck  Park field at 12:30pm. Don’t forget to dress in the  Michaelmas colors: Red, purple and gold!
Wednesday, October 5, 5:00-6:00pm: The next  monthly Parent Council meeting in the MLWS  Community Room. Thanks to all who came to our  first meeting. We hope to see you at the next  meeting, so please put it on your calendar!
Thursday, October 27, 7:30pm: “Technology,  Artificial Intelligence, and Waldorf Education”, a  presentation and conversation with Gary Lamb  about the developments in technology, artificial  intelligence, and game universes and potential  effects in home and school settings. This event is  sponsored by the MLWS Executive Committee.
Ongoing: Sunflower Garden Parent/Infant/Child  Play Group is enrolling for the Fall 2016 8-week  session, which meets on Fridays, 9:15-11:15am.  Please see the school’s website for more details.
