The Simplicity Parenting Series will lead us through the groundbreaking principles of the simplicity parenting movement with a focus on discipline and guidance by parenting expert Kim John Payne, M.Ed.
As we journey through the series, we will shift the way we see discipline and our children. We will begin to see misbehavior as our children’s signal that they’re feeling lost, and are looking to us for direction. This group will give us new skills to guide them back home.
As our children grow they need a different approach. There will be three groups, each designed to cover one of three important developmental stages:
Ages 0-9 | The Governor, who is comfortably and firmly in charge—setting limits and making decisions for the early years. (8 sessions from October 16 – December 11, 2025 – REGISTER HERE)
Ages 9-12 | The Gardener, who watches for emotional growth and makes decisions based on careful listening, assisting tweens in making plans that take the whole family’s needs into account. (6 sessions; dates TBD)
Ages 12-18 | The Guide, who is both a sounding board and moral compass for emerging adults, helping teens build a sense of their life’s direction as a way to influence healthy decision making.

The first group will be for Parents of Children 0-9 years old and will start on Thursday, October 16th. It will be held in person from 8:15 – 10:15am on Thursdays at Mountain Laurel. (If you cannot make this time there is an option with enough requests to add an evening zoom class.)
Each session will be 2 hours long, and will include a video by Kim John Payne followed by a group discussion facilitated by Sarah Faith Brumett, a Mountain Laurel parent who has been an adult educator for 16 years, teaching certification courses in meditation and healing with a new focus on parenting. There will be 8 sessions in total.
Cost: Suggested Donation for Mountain Laurel community members is $10 per session. We ask that those that enroll commit to coming to all sessions.
